New employee resources
Information Technology Services (ITS) is the central IT provider for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As the University’s strategic partner, ITS provides the campus community with leading-edge telecommunications, networking and applications and services for the academic and administrative endeavors that define a world-class university.
With a staff of dedicated professionals, ITS is guided by a mission of service and a vision of leadership through the effective integration and application of technology.
New ITS employees receive a new hire packet and are teamed up with an ITS buddy to help them learn about ITS. Here are a few additional resources to help acquaint new employees, and their buddies, with ITS.

ITS websites
ITS maintains two general-purpose websites: the main ITS site, for campus use, and ITS Commons, for internal ITS resources.
ITS website
The main ITS website features public/campus-facing information, about the scope and mission of ITS, including:

- Senior leadership bios
- ITS unit overviews and structure
- Building information
- Project Portfolio: campus-facing information about ITS’ largest projects and initiatives
- ITS News: campus-facing articles, tips, interviews and marketing
- Getting started guide: two guides (one for new UNC employees, one for new students) with highlights of ITS resources
ITS Commons
ITS Commons is an internal ITS site, housing resources such as:
- Org charts (Onyen required)
- ITS staff directory
- Conference room details
- ITS brand guide and downloadable templates
- Policies and other resources
Many ITS units have separate websites

ITS communication channels
ITS has several avenues for sharing information both internally and with the rest of campus.
Internal
- Monday Morning News: bi-weekly internal ITS newsletter, all temporary and permanent ITS staff are subscribed
- ITS-All email list: for reminders and essential information, permanent ITS staff are added
- ITS-Internal Microsoft Team: for updates and building connections, permanent and temporary ITS staff are added
- Your unit may have an internal Microsoft Team or Slack instance
External
- ITS News: news, information, updates for all campus
- EdTech blog: news and training opportunities for instructors
- ConnectCarolina blog and newsletter for ConnectCarolina administrators

Groups to join
Within ITS
Many ITS units have liaison or interest groups with different ways to join. A non-exhaustive list includes:

Outside ITS
- EDUCAUSE: UNC has an institutional membership, use your Onyen to create an account. Join a community group to connect with your peers at institutions nationwide and find other learning and networking opportunities.
- UNC CAUSE: Connect with IT professionals at other UNC System schools. Join a special interest group (SIG), present at the yearly conference or join the UNC CAUSE Slack channel.
- Carolina Technology Consultants (CTC): Now a largely inactive Microsoft Team, CTC has historically been a way for IT staff from around campus to connect.
- UNC IT Executive Council (ITEC): invite-only group for senior-level IT administrators across campus.
